An educational visit to Department of Microbiology, Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC), New Delhi was organized for the students of School of Biosciences, IMS Ghaziabad University Courses Campus on 5thApril 2018. It was accompanied by Dr. Suman Kumar, Dr. Namita A. Singh, Dr. Rahul Jain and Prof. Kapil Sharma.
The MAMC is one of the premier medical colleges, ranked 3rd in the country by India Today & Times of India. It caters to 290 undergraduates, 245 post graduate and post doctoral students per year being trained by 426 faculty members and 810 resident doctors. The students and faculties first interacted with Dr. C.P. Baveja, Director and Head of Microbiology Department, followed by visit of the students in the institute premises. The students were explored different sections of medical microbiology laboratories with Dr. Rohit Chawla, Associate Professor, Department of Microbiology, MAMC, New Delhi.
Students visited laboratories working on various aspects like urine culture, HIV, antibiotics, diarrhea, TB followed by mycology laboratory where Dr. Rohit Chawla explained routine lab experiments and research work on DNA Sequencer, Real time PCR, Thermocycler, BACTAC, Biosafety cabinet class A2, Horizontal Autoclave, Fluorescence Microscope, CD4 count machine, automated bacteriology system etc.
Beyond the academics, this visit has provided a practical perspective to the students; it helped to combine the theoretical knowledge with the practical exposure. Overall, this educational tour provided an opportunity to all the students, to develop the research and scientific vision in their future scientific career by getting an excellent exposure of research in the host institute.
