MIB ORIENTATION DAY- 4

The 4th day of the orientation programme for MIB entrants was organized by the Masters in International Business Department on July 18, 2018.
Following were the main objectives of this programme:

To groom and motivate the entrants to be a good professional and inculcate the attributes and values of the management professional.
To develop a sense of commitment towards the nation and profession.
To develop integrity, transparency, independence and excellence in the profession.
At the beginning of the MIB programme, students don't have the core building blocks to take full advantage of the curriculum. Most of them have very little or no business experience. This orientation program had been designed to give the students understand the "big picture" of business and build basic competencies in business areas such as finance, strategy, operations, marketing, and people management. Students were introduced to the unsettling truth that business problems don't come in tidy packages, but spill out chaotically across disciplines and departments.

PRE-LUNCH ACTIVITY
As a part of the orientation program the 4th day started with the much awaited Management games. The students were fortunate to hear from Dr Puneet Mohan. He urged that MIB education does not teach participants to find big jobs and earn great money but facilitates their understanding of various management concepts and practices and its relatedness to real-life situations. In this context he started the discussion with the old age definition of Management. "Management is the art of getting things done with and through others". He emphasized the word "WITH" which is the core of the definition. Without knowing the work yourself you cannot ask others to do the same.
He defined the word "POSDCORB" of Brownlow Committee coined by Luther Gulick and Lyndall Urwick through his much awaited Management Game. He formed 5 groups of 6 students and tried to explore the maximum details every student could gather of every member of their respective groups in a time frame of 4-5 minutes. Followed by this activity another activity was formed where the task was to throw a fresher party by these entrants to new MIB entrants assuming themselves to be the senior. For this a budget of Rs 1000 was allocated to them. Through this activity he actually demonstrated the entire acronym of POSDCORB.

POST- LUNCH ACTIVITY
Post lunch session started with Modern Concept of Management which says "Management is nothing but Decision making". During this session emphasis was given on making TEAM. How individuals form groups, groups form group dynamics and group dynamics result in Team building. This session witnessed the strength of making decision and also how to quantify the same.
Lastly he put his vision before the entrants by enchanting MIB education should not build arrogant managers but individuals with humility and receptiveness to new learning. He urged the students to use various facilities and the resources of the institute and University to become the industry-ready managers. "The more you learn the more you know that you know nothing" accept this key mantra and be ready for learning. The session was ended by a fabulous key note given by Dr Sapna Rakesh followed by sapling to Dr Puneet Mohan by Prof Kapil Mohan Garg.
