School of Biosciences of IMS, Ghaziabad (University Courses Camus) organized a guest lecture on 17th September by Dr. Vivek Dixit, Research Scientist from Department of Orthopedics at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) New Delhi. Dr. Dixit has more than 13 years of experience in several disciplines of Medical research including Neurology, Immunology, Gastroenterology, Biochemistry, Endocrinology and Orthopedics. He has been honored with the title "River Doctor" by the leading newspaper Indian Express in 2013 for the cleanup drive campaign initiated by him in April 2013 to save River Yamuna in order to make it garbage free river.

The title of his talk by was "Metabolic Bone Diseases and the Role of Vitamin D: An Overview". Dr. Dixit talked about the deficiencies related to bones with main focus on Vitamin D deficiency. In his lecture he imparted the knowledge of various diseases like Osteoporosis and Osteopenia occurring due to deficiency of Vitamin D. The impact of the diseases associated with this deficiency on Indian population was also discussed by him. Later on, he also presented the methods to diagnose and remedies for these diseases. He also shared the knowledge on various topics such as bone modeling and remodeling, modulators of bone remodeling, and various genes involved in the Genetics of Osteoporosis.

The guest lecture was followed by a short felicitation ceremony and vote of thanks. The students and the faculty members were highly obliged to Dr. Vivek Dixit for such a wonderful session and were looking forward for such interesting sessions in the future. In a nutshell, this session was really informative and very interesting. Students enjoyed a lot and their interest in this session was reflected from the number of questions they asked to Dr. Dixit.
