Career Counselling Session

"Find out what you like doing best and get someone to pay you for doing it."

IMS Ghaziabad (University Courses Campus) organised a Career Counselling Session for BBA I Year students (2018-21) Batch on March 2,2019 to choose their career as Company Secretary and how this profession is important in industry, business market and global economy. The Guest was felicitated by eco-friendly sapling as a token of welcome by Dr. Geeti Sharma, HOD BBA Programme.

The Guest speaker of the session CS Aarti Jain joined as Additional Director at Midas Touch Investors Association, and spearheaded the development and execution of "Investor Helpline", an initiative for redressal of grievances of the investors in Capital Market. This project was sponsored by IEPF under the aegis of Ministry of Corporate Affairs. She has also had the privilege of deposing before the Joint Parliamentary Committee - Finance on important issues including Volatility in Share Prices and For Review of Companies Bill, 2012.Since 2011, Ms. Jain started her own practice and is actively engaged in providing consultancy to Corporates in Companies Act, SEBI, FEMA, RBI and Intellectual Property Rights. She has also served as an independent Director on the Board of Lava International Limited. She has an experience of appearing before judicial and quasi judicial authorities including SEBI Appellate Tribunal. She has acted as a Secretarial Auditor and also as a scrutinizer for Postal Ballots.Presently, She is the Chairperson of the Ghaziabad Chapter of NIRC of ICSI.She highlighted the importance of CS in today's business scenario.

The another speaker of the session CS Deepa Singhal is a well-known Practicing Company Secretary from Ghaziabad. She is a proud Fellow Member of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI). She possesses rich experience in Corporate Advisory, Corporate Laws, Compliance and Due Diligence, Audits, Human Resources and Management Consulting. She has been advisor to many companies on corporate laws, compliance management and corporate transactional issues .Deepa has been Chairperson of the Ghaziabad Chapter of NIRC of ICSI for the years 2013, 2014 and 2017. She has been the first Woman Chairperson of the Ghaziabad Chapter. Due to her teamwork spirit, excellent administrative and inter-personal qualities, she has been one of the most popular Chairperson of the Ghaziabad Chapter.

At present, she is an active Member of ICSI Task force on Prevention of Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace, entrusted with awareness and sensitization of law relating to prevention of sexual harassment of working women. She gave a detailed description on The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) is the only recognized professional body in India to develop and regulate the profession of Company Secretaries in India. It is a premier national professional body set up under an act of Parliament, the Company Secretaries Act, 1980. ICSI functions under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Government of India. The Institute provides top-quality education to the students of Company Secretaries (CS) Course and best quality set standards to CS Members. At present, there are more than 50,000 members and about 4,00,000 students on the roll of ICSI.She focussed that Company Secretaries are multi-faceted professionals with all round excellence. They are competent to work as a integrated corporate managers and capable of undertaking wide gamut of work in all the functional areas in addition to their core area of Legal and Corporate Compliance Management. They have also established their eminence in Corporate Financial and Global matters. She gave a brief description on course curriculum of CS courses-CS Foundation Programme,CS Executive Programme and CS Professional Programme.

The session was concluded by another speaker Mr. Shrawan Kumar Aggrawal, M.A., LL.B., MBA, F.C.S.He was involved with the Northern India Regional Council of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India, in various capacities, as Member, Treasurer, Secretary, Vice Chairman and Chairman. The ICSI became a statutory body on 1st January 1981, while he was Chairman, NIRC, ICSI. He guided the Oral Coaching Classes of the Regional Council for the Company Secretaries for over a decade. He has been associated with the FICCI SAARC FORUM for about 15 years. He was Executive Committee Member of SAARC Chamber of Commerce & Industry for the years 2005-2007 and 2011-13. Has been actively involved with trade negotiations with all the SAARC countries. He is widely travelled having visited Europe, UK, USA, Egypt, Dubai, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Thailand, Kuala lumpur, Bali, etc.

He interacted with the students on present scenario of companies and how ICSI has been contributing to the initiatives of Government of India that have potential to excel the social-economic growth of India. A qualified Company Secretary has openings in Employment and as Practising Independent Professional.Company Secretary has been recognized as Key Managerial Personnel along with the Chief Executive Officer/managing director/manager, whole-time director and Chief Financial Officer. (section 203).Being Key Managerial Personnel, Company Secretary is required to be mandatorily appointed in every company belonging to such class or classes of companies as may be prescribed.

Students also raised queries on various aspects of CS. The session ends by proposing a vote of thanks and with a great zeal and motivation among the students.
