Entrepreneurship is a key driver of economic growth and job creation. In addition, self-employment is a response to non-availability of existing jobs. Through focus on entrepreneurship, youth and women develop skills required to establish an enterprise and become capable business people. Institute of Management Studies (university courses campus) held its maiden entrepreneurial seminar on ?Women Entrepreneurship -Defying Social expectations?. The seminar was held on September 15, 2016. The seminar was attended by 100 female students (approximately). A good number of male students (25) also participated as the event was open to all. Dr. Sapna Rakesh (Director, IMS Ghaziabad, University Courses campus) welcomed the resource person of the day Dr. Nidhi Srivastava (Faculty, Finance & entrepreneurship, IPEM Ghaziabad) and gave a brief outline of the objective of the seminar. She said the that the purpose of the seminar was to identify and categorize career motivations in the female students of Institute of Management Studies, Ghaziabad (University Courses Campus) across all the courses. Speaking on the theme ?Women Entrepreneurship -Defying Social expectations? the guest speaker for the seminar, Dr. Nidhi Srivastava, spoke on how people can take advantage of situations in their communities and make good business out of them. she educated participants on the need to start their own small businesses, and also make their products and services the preferable ones as the economic market have become more competitive in recent times. She also deliberated on developing entrepreneurial mindset of the female through the provision of financial advisory services, education and entrepreneurial development initiatives. The seminar provided a comprehensive and adoptable approach to human resources development and to empower women for employment or self-employment. Participants were also educated on the importance of savings and reinvesting. The seminar was interactive as participants made meaningful contributions to the discussion. The speaker also answered a number of questions from various students who had started considering starting their own businesses. In all, the two-hour comprehensive, interactive and educative entrepreneurship seminar ended with much enthusiasm in the participants as they were intensively educated on developing their entrepreneurial skills, finding their capabilities and making good use of their income and finances.
