Summary of the Event:
World Cancer Day is observed on February 4 to raise awareness of cancer and to encourage its prevention, detection and treatment. The primary goal of World Cancer Day is to significantly reduce illness and death caused by cancer. Cancer is the second-leading cause of death worldwide. Millions of lives could be saved each year by implementing resource appropriate strategies for prevention, early detection and treatment. To discuss the developments and challenges in the diagnosis as well as treatment options, IMS School of Biosciences organized a Guest Lecture on the occasion of “World Cancer Day” on 4th February 2022 (Friday) at 12:00 PM on Zoom Platform. In a brief welcome ceremony, the guest, Dr. Vinod Kumar Scientist, Department of Reproductive Biology, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) New Delhi was introduced and welcomed by Dr Umesh Kumar, Chairperson, School of Biosciences, IMS Ghaziabad University Course Campus.
Dr. Vinod informed that Cancer is the second-leading cause of death worldwide. Approximately 10 million people die from cancer every year. At least one third of common cancers are preventable. He further spoke that it is important to diagnose the cancer early for better management and treatment options viz chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and surgery. Some people benefit from newer options, such as stem cell transplantation and precision medicine.
The event was presided over by the Chairperson, School of Biosciences, Dr. Umesh Kumar. A formal vote of thanks was proposed by Dr Surabhi Johari, Chairperson, School of Biosciences.

The objective of the webinar was to raise awareness of cancer prevention and to encourage its prevention, detection and treatment amongst the students.
