The law and the constitution of our country are not only complex, but it comprises of such details that are often missed. So, to understand the media laws better, the School of Journalism and Mass Communication organized a guest lecture on 19th September 2019. The speaker for the day was Mr. Ashwani Kumar Dubey, Advocate, Supreme Court of India and Legal Advisor of Indian Federation of Working Journalists. The session was filled with exploration and details. Having a person whose work is so intertwined with the judiciary was a different perspective for the 2nd and 3rd year students who attended the lecture. His hands-on experience and knowledge of various laws and their subtle points helped the students clear their concepts and confusions. He discussed in details the Kashmir disputes, and the clauses of the several media related laws. Being an advocate involved with journalists? federation, he very well highlighted the importance of ethics and articles that a media personnel should keep in mind when reporting. He cautioned the students against the Acts of Defamation and Censorship, and talked about their importance and impact towards journalists. During the question answer round, he emphasized the responsibility of a journalist towards the nation. He also mentioned that law plays a very important role for people involved in information distribution, and how a minuscule mistake can affect several individuals. Overall, it was an experience of cherished and rich learning. Learning Outcome:The students understood the importance of Media Ethics and Law in their lives.
